The government has announced to extend the deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) in person for the financial year 2019-20 from December 31, 2020 to January 10, 2021. This deadline has been extended for individuals who do not need to have their accounts audited and who are usually filing their income tax returns using the ITR-1 or ITR-4 form.

With this, the government has extended the deadline for filing ITR for the third time. For the first time, the general deadline of July 31st to November 30th, 2020, and then December 31st, 2020 and now January 10, 2021 has been extended.

The deadline has been extended to February 15, 2021 for other taxpayers whose accounts need to be audited (including company partners) and / or who are required to submit reports on international financial transactions, according to information released by the government.

The government has also announced that the date for submission of tax audit report has been extended from December 31, 2020 to January 15, 2021. The deadline for the "Dispute to Trust Scheme" has also been extended to January 31, 2021.

The time limit for government ITR is constantly being extended due to the outbreak of Corona virus. Earlier, some chartered accountants and tax practitioner societies from across the country had appealed to the government to extend the deadline for ITR.
