Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the general budget on Monday. The government has proposed to increase agri cess on petrol by Rs 2.5 and diesel by Rs 4. At the same time, the FDI limit in the insurance sector has been increased from 49 per cent to 74 per cent. The middle class got nothing in the budget. The government has not made any changes in the income tax slab and has not given any exemption. However, the period of extra rebate of up to Rs 1.5 lakh in interest on affordable housing has been extended by one year till March 2022, while pensioners above the age of 75 are exempted from filing income tax returns.

Agri cess on petrol-diesel, but claims not to be affected

The first is petrol-diesel connected to the needs of ordinary citizens. The finance minister has proposed a cess of Rs 2.5 per liter on petrol and Rs 4 per liter on diesel. It will be called Agri Infra Development Cess. It will take effect on February 2. However, the finance minister has assured that there will be no burden on ordinary citizens. For this, basic excise duty and special additional excise duty have been reduced.

It includes 100 per cent cess on customs duty liquor, 20 per cent on lentils, 35 per cent on apples, 20 per cent on soybeans and sunflower oil. However ordinary citizens will not be affected.

Corona effect, 137 percent increase in health budget
Now for Corona, the most talked about. The finance minister mentioned Kovid and the epidemic 16 times in his speech. Corona has led to a 137 per cent increase in the health budget this time around.
