An ancient temple named Gopeshwar is located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Which is known as Gosthal form. It is believed that Pashvishwar Mahadev resides in the temple with Goddess Parvati. According to Bhuvanchandra Uniyal, the Dharmadhikari of Badrinath, this shrine is mentioned in the Kedarkhand of Skandapuran.

गोस्थलकं स्मृतम्।

तत्राहं सर्वदा देवि निवसामि त्वया सह।।

नाम्ना पश्वीश्वरः ख्यातो भक्तानां प्रीतिवर्धनः।

त्रिशूलं मामकं तत्र चिन्हमाश्चर्यरूपकम्।।

(સ્કંદ પુરાણ, કેદારખંડ, અધ્યાય-55, શ્લોક 07-08)

આ શ્લોક પ્રમાણે શિવજી માતા પાર્વતીને કહે છે કે, આ ગોસ્થળ નામનું દર્શનીય સ્થળ છે. જ્યાં હું તમારી સાથે નિવાસ કરું છું, ત્યાં મારું નામ પશ્વીશ્વર છે. આ સ્થાનમાં ભક્તોની ભક્તિ વિશેષ વધી જાય છે. ત્યાં આપણાં ચિહ્ન સ્વરૂપ જે ત્રિશૂળ છે, તે આશ્ચર્ય કરનાર છે.

ओजसा चेच्चाल्यते तन्नहि कंपति कर्हिचित।

कनिष्ठया तु यत्स्पृष्टं भक्त्या तत्कंपते मुहुः।।

(સ્કંદ પુરાણ, કેદારખંડ, અધ્યાય-55, શ્લોક 09)

મંદિર પાસે એક વૃક્ષ છે, જે દરેક ઋતુમાં એક જેવા ફુલોથી સજેલું રહે છે.

मया तत्र पुरा दग्धो झषकेतुर्महेश्वरि।।

झषकेतुहरो नाम्ना सर्वतीर्थफलप्रदः।

કેદારખંડ પ્રમાણે મહાદેવે પોતાની ત્રીજી આંખથી કામદેવને આ સ્થાન ઉપર ભસ્મ કરી દીધા હતાં. એટલે શિવજીને આ ક્ષેત્રમાં ઝષકેતુહર પણ કહેવામાં આવે છે.

ઝષનો અર્થ છે- મીન, માછલી

કેતુનો અર્થ- ધ્વજ

કામદેવના ધ્વજ ઉપર મીનનું નિશાન હોય છે.

કામદેવનો વધ કરનાર- ઝષકેતુહરો

रतीश्वर इति ख्यातो मम संगमदायक।

रतिकुण्डं च तत्रास्ति नाम्ना मल्लोकदायकम्।।

(સ્કંદ પુરાણ, કેદારખંડ, અધ્યાય- 55, શ્લોક 15)
