Mahindra & Mahindra may launch the next generation XUV500 and the new Scorpio in the second 6 months of this year. Production in the auto industry around the world has been slowing down due to shortages in semiconductor supply. It has canceled many major launching events, but has not had much of an impact on the production of electric vehicles.
In the Indian market, local manufacturers are trying to establish their dominance in the EV space. Many Zero Emission Vehicles are ready to be launched in the market in the near future. Among local brands, Mahindra and Tata Motors are fast moving towards the EV segment. Mahindra may soon launch a production version of the eXUV300. The concept model of this car was launched by the company at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The company will invest about Rs 3,000 crore in the EV business
The company can then try its luck on eKUV100. It is based on the company's KUV NXT Micro. According to sources, the company is also working on an electric model of the upcoming Scorpio and XUV 500. Mahindra & Mahindra will invest about Rs 3,000 crore in the EV business in the next 3 to 5 years. To accelerate its EV push, the company aims to achieve 30% of total sales by EV by 2027-2030.
According to reports, Mahindra may also launch an electric MPV based on a Marazzo. Until the middle of this decade, Mahindra has been focusing on leading the electric SUV space. It currently includes models like the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona REV. The Nexon EV became the best-selling passenger EV last year.
The company will develop special skateboard architecture
Rajesh Zezurikar, Additional Director and Executive Director, Mahindra, confirmed that the company will be working on several other products besides the eXUV300 to take advantage of the opportunity.
Mahindra 2 will develop skateboard architecture. It will integrate battery packs with electric motors, suspension units and other components. So passengers can get proper space inside the car. APF (Automobile Pininferina) may work with Mahindra North American Technical Center to design this model.
